Aimee Richardson: Your Partner in Nutritional Success

NUTRITION COACH

Hi there! I'm Coach Aimee

Like you, I've spent a big portion of my life trying to exercise off calories and control my food. Using my work ethic and drive, I've been able to achieve amazing things in my career and family life. Pull all-nighters for years to earn multiple engineering degrees? No problem. Have 2 kids within 2 years while my husband finished his PhD? Easy. Complete multiple fitness certifications and teach classes while balancing a demanding engineering career? I'll set a backup alarm at 4am so I can hit my work deadline before the gym.

But, for whatever reason, just eating like a "normal" person constantly eluded me. I loved to exercise and thought I could burn off my sins anytime I fell off the wagon. Nevermind that this resulted in overtraining injuries and physical exhaustion. I used to think, "I'm a smart person. I know how to work hard. Why can't I just knuckle down and do this?"

  • I had a transactional relationship with food, exercise, and my body that left me feeling terrible about myself.

What I didn’t know then is that it’s not possible to willpower and discipline your way to a “perfect” body, portion control, and a peaceful relationship with food. Not for the long haul anyway. Unlike getting a promotion or finishing a 10k, eating is too intrinsically tied to our physical survival. Our brains can’t handle even tiny periods of starvation or not knowing when our next meal will come. And when it comes to threats to your survival, your brain will win every time.

The answer? Self-compassion and body respect. Treating your body well through old-fashioned healthy eating because your body deserves exquisite care. Learning how to experience pleasure from food in ways that align with your values. And most of all: increasing your own confidence in your body and yourself, exactly as you are.

After all, what we all want is to feel comfortable in our skin and to eat well without a lot of drama. No one has ever learned to love their body by hating themselves thin.
